Pick an object, behavior or phenomenon, like Craig Raine in “A Martian Sends a Postcard Home,” and defamiliarize it. What are you able to say now that the thing is something else?

I used to be a thick box.
You open me when you are free.
You open me when you need glee.
Once I accompanied with a a weird stick, while now we don’t need to be mixed.
My early life was dark,
but now it is sparked.
My family was not that big at first,
now I have a lot of birth.
Do you know what I am, reader?
I’ll be glad if you can figure.
It holds lots;
It holds everything.
There’re crowded spots;
There’s empty nothing.
It’s above your head,
Or maybe it’s under.
It carries things that are dead,
And things that glimmer.
To you, some are visible,
Making you want to be a traveler.
But going there may be almost impossible,
Since a place across the globe is actually nearer.
Boarding a ship, some become goners;
Rules at home do not apply here.
It ignites striking wonder,
And also mighty fear.
Look carefully and you gonna see me.
Look carelessly, you gonna see me, too.
My age is more than a thousand year, honey.
Even now, I stay very close to you.
I have so many various parents.
They create me deliberately like God creates world.
They live everywhere: oceans and continents.
They might be an old man or just a little girl.
I can make people sleep, if I want to.
I can make you smile with blossoming heart.
Sometimes, you cry because of me, yes, you do,
Since I’m able to tear your heart apart.
Dear me, dear me, if you still don’t know me.
Dear me, dear me, I’m so close to you.
Look carefully and you gonna see me, honey.
Look carelessly, you gonna see me, too.
It seems like you look at me,
but it’s not me that you want to see.
Sometimes, I make you smile.
Sometimes, you just frown and cry.
I’m truthful.
I never lie.
And you never get through a day
Without passing me by
Its core can be the same or different
Its vomit is all but permanent
Its inscription can create influence
Its ability is to speak for the silence
take a guess 😀 what is it?
Leaf doesn’t fall from tree;
squared and white
retells story there used to be
all day and night
It starts with the F and ends with the K
The first you see in a mirror every day
The latter your thrist for knowledge, it will quench
Together it’s a place to meet friends
You hold me in hand
To make people understand
Useless when I wither
Fluid inside; outside harder
Symbol of strength
Reward of hardwork
You stop it becomes flat
You continue it becomes more wavy
Made out of sweat and soreness
Oftenly, just there to impress
I’m thin and fragile,
with body as cold as ice.
I’m useless on my own
but I’m good with a device.
“Don’t forget who you are”,
My creator had told me
to deliver a crucial message.
then, forever will, I’m free.
When I move my whole body,
my soul can dance and shout.
“Feel me with your heart.”
that is all I’ll ask about.
Please keep me safe from harm,
and softly hold me close.
I shall dance for you all night
’cause I’m your favorite electronic ghost.
